Understanding Umrah Worship

Visiting the holy land is the dream of all Muslims. Two acts of worship can be performed by calling the sacred land of Mecca, namely the Hajj and Umrah.

The Umrah pilgrimage attracts many people because it is more flexible than the Hajj pilgrimage regarding implementation time, and there is no limited quota for pilgrims.

Before carrying out the Umrah pilgrimage, you should understand what Umrah is, its requirements, pillars and priorities. Come on, see the complete explanation:

Understanding Umrah Worship

Umrah is also known as the minor Hajj. Like the Hajj, the Umrah is carried out in the holy land.

Umrah Worship

In language, the meaning of Umrah is visiting a place. Meanwhile, in fiqh terms, Umrah means performing a series of acts of worship consisting of Tawaf, sa’i, and ending with tahalul.

The law on performing Umrah is sunnah. However, many people are interested in Umrah for several reasons. Apart from its implementation being more flexible because it can be carried out throughout the year, it is also not limited by quotas like the Hajj.

The difference between the Hajj and Umrah lies in the timing and implementation. The Hajj pilgrimage can only be performed in the month of Dzulhijjah, while the Umrah pilgrimage is not limited to a particular month. The Umrah pilgrimage can be performed at any time, but it is best to perform it on the days of Arafah, Eid al-Adha, and the three days of Tasyriq.

Apart from that, the implementation is also different. When performing Umrah, we do not perform wukuf, mabit, and throw Jumrah like the Hajj.

Conditions for Carrying out the Umrah Worship

For your Umrah pilgrimage to be accepted, there are several conditions for carrying out the Umrah pilgrimage that must be met, including:

  • Muslim
  • Already mature or mature. Children are still allowed to perform Umrah but are not included in the mandatory Umrah requirements.
  • Be sensible. Muslims who carry out the Umrah pilgrimage must be able to distinguish between good and evil.
  • Independent.
  • Capable.
  • There must be a mahram for women.

Procedures for Umrah Worship

The Umrah pilgrimage has different pillars from the Hajj pilgrimage. Reporting from the Ministry of Religion, the following are the pillars of the Umrah pilgrimage that you need to know:

1. Have an intention

The first is to make an intention and wear an ihram. Miqat is located in Medina and is the place to create intentions and put on Ihram.

What must be done during miqat is to bathe, wear ihram clothes, perform ablution, pray two rak’ahs of the sunnah ihram prayer and recite the intention for Umrah.

2. Do Tawaf

Tawaf is done by circling the Kaaba seven times. Tawaf rounds are carried out counterclockwise, starting from the Hajar Aswad point and ending at the Hajar Aswad point.

3. Doing Sa’i

Sa’i is done by walking or jogging from Bukit Shafa to Bukit Marwah seven times. Behind the order to perform is a story about the faith of Siti Hajar, wife of Prophet Ibrahim AS.

When Prophet Ibrahim AS was away carrying out Allah’s orders, his son cried because he was thirsty. Siti Hajar then walked to look for a water source. After walking seven times back and forth from Bukit Shafa to Bukit Marwah, water finally appeared from the stomping feet of his son, Ismail.

4. Tahallul or Shaving Your Hair

The next pillar of Umrah is tahallul, or shaving the hair. Tahallul is performed after the Umrah pilgrimage.

Male congregants can shave bald or shave part of their head hair, and female congregants can shave at least 3 strands. By doing tahallul, you are free from prohibitions during Ihram and at the end of the Umrah pilgrimage.

5. Orderly

Lastly, this harmony must be carried out in an orderly manner. The implementation of the pillars of Umrah must be in order, starting with the intention and ending with parallel or shaving the hair.

Priorities in Umrah Worship

There are many advantages of performing Umrah, namely:

Umrah during Ramadan is the same as Hajj.

The priority in performing Umrah during Ramadan is that the reward is the same as the Hajj pilgrimage.

“When Ramadan comes, perform Umrah at that time because Umrah during Ramadan is equivalent to the Hajj.” (HR. Bukhari)

Kept away from Poverty and Washed Off Sins

If someone has performed Umrah and performs Umrah again in the following years, then the sins between the two Umrahs will be erased.

“Take part in the Umrah along with the Hajj, because both remove poverty and sins as burning removes rust from iron, gold and silver. Meanwhile, there is no reward for a successful Hajj except heaven.” (HR Imam at-Tirmidhi)

Answered Prayer

“People who perform Hajj and Umrah are guests of Allah. So if they ask Him, He will surely grant it, and if they ask for forgiveness, He will certainly forgive them.” (HR Ibn Majah)

Peace of Mind

The Umrah pilgrimage makes a person more patient and calm at heart. Apart from that, the quality of one’s faith will increase, and life will be more peaceful.

The Reward of Prayer is Multiple

Several prayer places are privileged to multiply prayer rewards, such as praying at the Quba Mosque.

If you pray two rak’ahs, you will get a reward equivalent to Umrah.

That is the explanation of what Umrah is that can be conveyed. You can take advantage of your Umrah savings to make your dream of going to the holy land come true. Using Umrah savings, you can plan your Umrah pilgrimage more regularly, making you calmer.
